Yellow Teeth

Teeth Whitening Will Help You Make a Good Impression

If you are looking for love, you want to have white teeth. Making a good first impression while dating requires that you look your best, and beautiful white teeth are one way to get noticed. If you looked in a mirror and suddenly find that you have yellow teeth, there may still be time to do something about it.

Natural Teeth Whitening at Home

Several methods can help whiten your teeth. Most likely, you already have these ingredients at home, and they are all natural. Just choose which method you want to whiten your teeth.

Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is one of the chemicals that dentists use for teeth whitening, although they will use a higher strength than what you can get at the store. This method may be one of the oldest ones around. Make a paste of it by adding a couple of drops of hydrogen peroxide to a teaspoon of baking soda.

Once it is ready, dip your wet toothbrush into it and use like toothpaste. You only want to use it for about three days in a row, and then leave it alone for at least six months. It is abrasive and using it too often can damage your enamel. Studies have found that when mixed with other substances, baking soda works better than when alone, which is why it is used in some kinds of toothpastes. Hydrogen peroxide will kill bacteria.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Studies have found that using apple cider vinegar does kill bacteria and will also whiten your teeth. This is because it contains acetic acid. It is best to mix it with some water and use it as a mouthwash. Swish it around for a couple of minutes. Because it is an acid, you do not want to keep it in your mouth very long. It will soften the enamel on your teeth, so do not brush your teeth for at least 20 minutes afterward, or this will damage it. Do not use it more than three times per week.

Strawberries

Another natural teeth whitening formula is to use strawberries with some baking soda. The strawberries contain malic acid which should help take care of the discoloration, and the baking soda can help remove stains. While this method has become rather popular, there really is no evidence that it works. Do not use baking soda on your teeth more than three times per week because of its abrasiveness.

Charcoal Toothpaste

This method is becoming more popular all the time. Many kinds of toothpaste are now available that have charcoal in them. It uses an activated form of charcoal, not the kind you put on your grill. This means it has a lot more holes in it to pull out the food, dyes, and bacteria in your teeth. Even though coal is very black, many people swear that it works for them to whiten teeth. Because coal is abrasive, using it too often will damage the enamel.

Coconut Oil

You may never have thought about using an oil to whiten your teeth, but many people claim it works. Using it after you brush gives better results. All you need to do is to place about a tablespoon of the liquid oil in your mouth and swish it around for five to 15 minutes. Then spit it out and rinse your mouth. Coconut oil has powerful antimicrobial properties which enable it to protect and clean your gums, too. The advantage of using it is that it has no side effects and will not harm your teeth.

Reader Beware

Many so-called natural teeth whitening methods simply do not work. While the promises of whiter teeth may be there, many of these methods do not have any scientific backing whatever. Instead, you may only find that it will damage your teeth – especially if it is highly abrasive or acidic.

The enamel on your teeth does not grow back. Once it is gone you will not get any more. Your teeth can be remineralized, which means that the minerals leeched out of them from harmful acid may be put back into them. A thinning of the enamel on your teeth may make them sensitive, as well as enabling cavities to form more easily. It can also mean that your teeth become stained more easily.

How to Keep Your Teeth White

Preventing your teeth from turning yellow may be easier than you think. Some things will stain them, such as some medications, wine, dark-colored sodas and foods, aging, smoking, and some health conditions. Avoiding these substances, or at least brushing shortly afterward, can help you keep your teeth whiter longer.

Whiten Teeth Fast

The teeth whitening kits that you buy in a store are not going to whiten your teeth very fast. If you are in a hurry to whiten your teeth for a date, then time is against you. At most, these kits, or any other natural tooth whitening method will only whiten your teeth one or two shades. A dentist has much more powerful chemicals, and laser teeth whitening can get your teeth about six shades whiter in just one hour.
